Westtown School, an independent, PK-12, day and boarding Quaker school in West Chester, Pennsylvania, seeks a Physical Plant Manager to join are team of highly qualified and dedicated Facilities staff.

The Physical Plant Manager ensures all building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are well maintained and are operated in a manner which reflects the excellence of Westtown School.To that end, directs the maintenance, operations and updating of these systems in all campus buildings plus campus utility systems which include electrical, geothermal, water, storm and sewer drainage systems.Manages mechanical and electrical mechanics, the mechanic on call program, and an operating budget of $600,000.Implements and directs programs to ensure effective and efficient operation of Physical Plant shop and promotes steady incremental improvement.Immediately responds to all emergencies during both normal and off duty hours to ensure safe and timely operations to cover all campus commitments.This position is considered essential personnel and must
report to campus during inclement weather.
Manages area of responsibility within established programs, policies, and guidelines in order toprovide quality service to Westtown.Manages the Physical Plant mechanics, the mechanic on call program and the 24/7 operation of the HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Boiler room.Directs the workforce to maintain, operate, and update the campus’ related building and utility systems.Primary responsibilities include:
Supervise, direct and coordinate direct reports, which include physical plant mechanics in the technical fields of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire and life safety systems, to proactively maintain, operate and update the campus’s electrical, HVAC. plumbing and fire and life safety systems.
Develop, monitor, analyze and manage the budget for personnel, supplies, equipment and contractual services to support Departmental objectives.Approve requests for major expenditures.
Administer personnel programs, including: recruitment, hiring, retention, training, safety, attendance, discipline, performance evaluations, recognition, staffing and setting of individual work standards
Manage equipment resources so they are available when needed, used properly and achieve a maximum useful life.
Resolve internal and external customer concerns, issues and problems.Ensure area of responsibility provides outstanding customer service and communications by keeping the customers informed on the progress of work in their area.
Write and supervise annual and one time preventative, repair and maintenance contracts.
Immediately responds to all emergencies during normal and off duty hours to ensure safe and timely operations so campus operations can continue without interruption.Serves as a backup to the mechanic on call program.
As an active member of the Facilities and Westtown management team, serves on various committees.
Other duties as assigned.

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell, use fingers to handle or feel or each with hands and arms.Must be able to bend, stoop and lift for long periods of time.
May be required to climb ladders.
Must be able to work in steam tunnels and pits.
Must be able to push/pull heavy loads
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the mechanical trades; five years of experience as a skilled tradesperson with appropriate experience which will vary based on the assigned responsibilities in the mechanical, electrical building or other trades.
Minimum of three (3) years of management or equivalent experience overseeing mechanical, electrical, plumbing trades.
Working knowledge of NFPA codes, Life Safety 101, BOCA building codes
Must possess good oral and written communication skills and be able to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to express ideas effectively and concisely.
Must be able to train, evaluate, counsel and discipline staff as needed to ensure cooperation and teamwork.
Must possess computer skills to work in Microsoft Office, Google Suite and navigate and distribute work in Westtown CMMS program (SchoolDude preferred).
Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and/or building trades.
Working knowledge of applicable agency standards and appropriate building and construction code regulations.
Knowledge of safety procedures related to hazardous material.Must adhere to the safety standards and work practices established by OSHA.Must ensure direct reports follow safety guidelines.
Ability to use tools, machine equipment and materials of the mechanical, electrical and/or building trades.
Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications.
Preferred but not required to possess certifications in:Refrigerant, Wastewater Operations, Water Operations, and Pool Operations.Position will be responsible for in house or contractual operation of these systems.
Must be able to prepare reports to regulatory agencies as needed (PaDEP, Chester County Health Department, EPA, etc.)
Should be able to prioritize work and work independently without close supervision.
Must be able to maintain calm composure in emergency and stressful situations.
Must be available for on backup on call, weather and emergencies.
Must have a valid Driver License.
