William Penn Charter School, a co-ed, pre-K-12 independent Quaker School, seeks a full-time lower school teacher (most likely for second grade) for the 2020-21 academic year. Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree in education or a related field (an advanced degree is preferred) and prior experience teaching lower school children. Experience with the Math in Focus and Readers and Writers Workshop curriculums is required and experience with the Responsive Classroom approach is preferred. The successful candidate will also embrace student-centered pedagogy and technology use in the classroom, model curiosity and a desire for professional growth, and exhibit a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues. They will also demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through their work with students, families, and colleagues, and in their commitment to cultural competency in teaching practice. The ability to design creative lessons that weave critical components of the curriculum into experiential and project-based learning activities is also essential. Familiarity with the principles and practices of Quakerism and Quaker education is highly desirable.
A full-time teaching load includes:
Teach Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies in a self-contained classroom and guide students in social and emotional development
Work as a contributing member in concert with the grade level teaching team, as well as with the broader Lower School faculty
Write student reports three to four times per year and organize/carry out parent conferences on student performance two times per year
Maintain ongoing parent communication, including a current page on our school LMS (PC Hub)
Take part in recess duty, lunch duty, and bus duty, and coach a Penn Charter sports team and/or teach a Lower School Enrichment program as assigned
