The Controller has primary responsibility for the finance function at Delaware Valley Friends School, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, maintenance of the general ledger, financial reporting, and preparation for the annual audit. The Controller will work with the CFO to create appropriate segregation of duties within the business office and ensure effective internal controls.

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Oversight and responsibilities:
Ensures accurate entry and timely payment of all accounts payable transactions, including vendor bills and employee reimbursements; oversees accounts payable entries by part-time business office staff, when applicable.
Collects, prepares, and processes the semi-monthly payroll through the school’s outsourced payroll service.
Creates invoices for student tuition and other fees; receives and records student tuition payments on a regular basis.
Assists with assessments of internal controls and process documentation; proposes changes to remedy any control deficiencies.
Reconciles balance sheet accounts monthly and prepares closing journal entries.
Prepares annual audit schedules and manages the audit process in coordination with the CFO.
Attends required events as referenced in the Faculty & Staff Handbook.
Engages in ongoing professional development relevant to the position.
Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer or Head of School.
Supports the School and its mission, maintaining a high degree of professionalism at all times.
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field; CPA preferred.
At least two years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in a school or nonprofit environment.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Proficiency in the use of accounting, payroll, and other database systems; familiarity with Sage Intacct desirable.
Fluency in Microsoft Excel, including knowledge of principles of spreadsheet design and efficient and reliable use of formulas.
Strong customer service orientation toward and ability to communicate effectively with external constituents, including families, donors and vendors, and internal constituents, including faculty and staff.
Familiarity with and appreciation for Quaker principles.
