The Ellis School, the only pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent all-girls day school in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a part-time Middle and Upper School Clay instructor beginning in August 2021. Responsibilities will include teaching a wide range of beginning to advanced levels of clayworks. Other duties, including—but not limited to—proctoring study halls, chaperoning, committee work, and participating in the Fine Arts Festival are integral to the role of Middle and Upper School faculty members.
Undergraduate studies with a focus in clay/sculpture or a related studio arts/arts educationfield are required. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching and working with clay as a sculptural art form, hand-building, throwing on the wheel, and various alternative firing methods. Studio experience in working with other media including, but not limited to, technology and fine and/or applied arts is also desirable. An ability to apply a variety of pedagogical approaches and to be flexible is a must. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven ability to work collaboratively, a commitment to using innovative pedagogical practices and technology to enhance instruction, enthusiasm about all-girls education, enthusiasm for working with and teaching adolescents, and excellent communication skills.
