Westtown School, has a current opening for an experienced Auto Mechanic to join our Facilities Department. The full-time Auto Mechanic maintains the school’s on and off road vehicles and mechanical equipment, providing necessary repairs and maintenance.
Westtown School is an independent, co-educational, pre-K to 12, college preparatory day and Quaker boarding school located in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. Keep all fleet vehicles in excellent running condition and road ready at all times.
Service, repair and perform preventive maintenance on all campus vehicles, pool cars, busses and vans, plus other maintenance equipment including: tractors, backhoes, trucks, forklifts, and utility carts. Service and repair grounds equipment, which includes: power mowers, snow plows, blowers, vacuums, chain saws, spray equipment, etc.
Maintain service and repair records/logs.
Rebuild vehicles and fabricate parts when needed.
Repair other items on campus, such as bleachers, generators, fences, fire pump, etc.
Perform groundskeeper duties as required.
Maintain knowledge of school property and staff as necessary to perform assigned
Practice energy conservation and safe work practices at all times.
Attend work on time as scheduled and adhere to attendance policy.
Provides support and manpower as directed to other School and Physical Plant Departments
Participate in departmental meetings and training.
Adhere to all work rules, procedures and policies established by the school. This includes, but is not limited to those contained in the Employee Handbook and the Crisis Response Manual.
Have a thorough knowledge of emergency procedures.
Promote teamwork and a collaborative work environment.
Follow proper key control procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Materials/Equipment Handled: Automotive hand tools, air impact tools, welding equipment, floor jack, lift, landscaping tools and equipment, fertilizer, chemicals, gasoline, diesel fuel.
Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 50 lbs. regularly. Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 100 lbs occasionally, with assistance, while using proper moving and lifting procedures.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for extended periods of time.
May be required to occasionally climb ladders.
Must be able to tolerate lying under vehicles in enclosed spaces.
Must be able to tolerate weather variances and exposure to the elements.
Minimum of 2 years training at an auto mechanical technical school.
Minimum of 5 years experience as a journeyman auto mechanic at a dealership garage or equivalent. Completion of current auto trade extension courses on items such as auto electronics, transmissions, air conditioning, differentials, brakes and other related subjects.
Experience in small engine repairs is preferred.
Training and experience in oxy-acetylene and arc welding.
Knowledge of safety procedures related to hazardous materials.
Organized, dependable, and trustworthy.
Able to work independently without close supervision.
A can-do attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Must have a valid Driver's and CDL B License.
