CFS is seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as a faculty member in the STEAM Department for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. This full-time faculty position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree. A Master’s Degree and at least five years of teaching experience are preferred. All CFS faculty share responsibilities in the academic, athletic, residential, and co-curricular life of the School. The school will consider part-time candidates who would only teach four courses.
Specific responsibilities include mathematics instruction at the Upper School level in a 21st Century learning environment. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience with a broad spectrum of Upper School mathematics content, with specific emphasis on applications of topics covered in Algebra I, Algebra II, and Statistics. Applicants should be skilled in integrating technology in classroom instruction and in project-based learning methodologies.
All candidates must be comfortable in a culturally diverse, all-male student environment, be able to nurture the development of students’ critical thinking and analytical skills, and be facile in helping students respond creatively to the world around them. Additional responsibilities include advising students and attending regular school meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities. The ideal candidate will be able to participate more broadly in school life by sponsoring clubs and extracurricular activities, coaching interscholastic teams or sponsoring after-school clubs, chaperoning school activities on and off campus, serving as an affiliate in regular dormitory duty, being an integrated member of the CFS community, and generally being available to students in our residential environment. Given restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some co-curricular faculty responsibilities may be curtailed. Classroom instruction will likely include a blend of in-person and distance learning.
As a member of the Faculty, the Mathematics Instructor will:
Provide effective and innovative instruction in areas of Upper School mathematics
Maintain effective classroom management and execute effective instructional plans
Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with using technology in the delivery of curriculum and instruction
Display experience with developing and delivering 21st Century teaching/learning methodologies
Be willing to inspire, empower, and work with students at all mathematics levels
Possess the skills necessary to communicate effectively with CFS students, colleagues, and parents
Understand and welcome the complexity of teaching adolescent boys
Embrace enthusiastically the unique opportunities presented by a boarding school environment
Cultivate and maintain meaningful, professional relationships with students, families, and members of the CFS community
Help to promote and to maintain a sense of community and collaboration
Demonstrate support of the Mission of the School through time, dedication, personal example, actions, and attitude
Perform required faculty activities, including periodic weekday/evening/weekend duties, athletic coaching, and residential responsibilities
Exhibit enthusiasm for and joy in working closely with colleagues and students
