Germantown Academy, located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is seeking qualified, experienced candidates for the position of Dean of Faculty, beginning July 2021. Position Purpose: 

Reporting to the Head of Upper School, the Upper School Dean of Faculty will foster teaching and learning best practices in Upper School classrooms, including the development, coordination, and evaluation of holistic professional development programming dedicated to that aim. The Dean of Faculty will work to ensure that Germantown Academy’s Upper School teachers are positioned and motivated to lead in the definition and execution of teaching best practices as education learns and evolves from the lessons of 2020.  

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Teach two classes.
2. Serve on Upper School leadership team with Head of Upper School, Upper School Dean of Students, and House Head Director.
3. Advise the Head of Upper School in the setting of Department Head meeting agendas to pursue pedagogical and curricular innovation and excellence across the Upper School, including alignment with NAIS’ 21st-century competencies and opportunities for vertical integration with future-ready learning across a PK-12 arc. 
4. Oversee Department Heads in development and application of consistent expectations and practices across division’s Academic departments.
5. Partner with Head of Upper School and Assistant Head of School to identify, develop, and implement professional development opportunities to enhance teaching and learning practices across the Upper School, as well as oversight and establishment of expectations surrounding individual faculty professional development.
6. Partner with Head of Upper School to develop and oversee evaluation process for Upper School Department Heads.
7. Partner with Head of Upper School and Assistant Head of School to examine and execute evaluation process for Upper School faculty.
8. Partner with Head of Upper School and Department heads to recruit, orient, support, and retain new faculty.
9. Partner with Head of Upper School and Department heads to support faculty in need of professional growth, and to facilitate necessary mediation between Upper School faculty and students/families.
10. Collaborate with the Upper School leadership team to ensure the smooth functioning of the day-to-day operations in the Upper School.

3. Demonstrated experience leading and facilitating conversation about best practices of teaching and learning.
4. Demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking and project management.
5. A strong work ethic and passion for education.
6. Previous management experience required.
7. Advanced degree required.
