Position Summary: The Alumni & Development Officer position is for a candidate with one to three years of experience in independent school fundraising (preferred), including engagement with young alumni, BIPOC alumni and parent committees or related experience. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Essential Duties or Responsibilities:
Develop a working knowledge of The Haverford School and Palmer House initiatives in general, and funding priorities specifically, to articulate a compelling case for support to all constituents.
Young Alumni Giving: Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors to The Haverford Fund with the goal of increasing participation and dollars raised; increase the number of young alumni leadership donors; increase visibility of the Young Alumni giving society and the Maroon & Gold Leadership Giving Society; maintain an active portfolio of approximately 25 to 35 donors to cultivate, solicit and steward to build a pipeline to leadership giving.
Young Alumni Participation: Work with the Alumni Director and Director of The Haverford Fund and Palmer House staff and volunteers to increase the participation of young alumni in The Haverford Fund (first) and all other funds of interest; broaden the base of annual support, leverage events and social media and other strategies to engage young alumni participation.
Young Alumni Cultivation: Identify and cultivate young alumni with capacity to give with an eye towards strengthening ties to Haverford, disseminating the message about the importance of annual giving, and establishing relationships with the Palmer House team.
Volunteer Management: Develop and implement giving strategies and outreach for the BIPOC Alumni and Parent Committees, Young Alumni Committee, assist with class agents and reunion volunteers for the 15th Reunion and younger for purposes of raising dollars and adding donors to The Haverford Fund; work with Graduway and GiveCampus and the Volunteer portal to ensure updates about volunteer activity are recorded and that young alumni volunteers are trained to use the application.
Identification, Cultivation, Solicitation and Stewardship: Learn the “gift cycle” working closely with the Associate Director of Donor Relations, Alumni Director, Director of The Haverford Fund and Capital Gifts Officer to implement a successful identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship program for young alumni and other donors including recognition of loyalty, leadership and volunteer service.
Reunions: Assist with the 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th reunion classes to increase giving and attendance at the events working closely with the Alumni Director, Development Office Manager & Events Coordinator and Marketing & Communications team to promote reunion event information to alumni.
Young Alumni Events: In consultation with the Alumni Director, Palmer House staff and collaboration with the Development Office Manager & Events Coordinator, plan and implement local and regional annual events for young alumni including college-aged alumni and networking events for young alumni; create opportunities for alumni to return to campus.
Student Programs: Work with the Alumni Director to increase the visibility of the Alumni Office and Palmer House and The Haverford Fund on campus; assist with student programs and help to further Haverford’s culture of philanthropy, including engagement of III, IV, V and VI Form students culminating with the solicitation of the VI Form students as they become alumni.
Assist with Social Media: In partnership with the Alumni Director and Marketing & Communications team to show the impact of volunteering and giving and to ensure visibility of The Haverford Fund on social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned; some travel required.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combined education and experience
Excellent organization skills and ability to organize others/predict needs of development staff
Outstanding communication skills and expertise in social media
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals, volunteers, alumni, and students of all ages and gift levels
High energy level and proactive approach to work
Sense of humor, enthusiastic and happy, high ethical professional standards, and multicultural perspective
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
Strong computer literacy using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and mail merges; email and web searches as well as familiarity with data entry, data retrieval, and relational database software
Experience with Senior Systems or other database software
Appreciation of single-sex independent school education
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds
Generally works in standard office conditions and climate
May work in varied extreme outside weather conditions during special activities and fundraising events
Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
