The Position The Upper School Learning Specialist provides well-designed, caring, and thoughtful support for students who benefit from assistance as they navigate EA's rigorous academic program. To do so, the Learning Specialist coordinates with administration, teachers, advisors, and parents to support student learning and growth. The Learning Specialist supports students individually and in small groups, manages testing reports, oversees student accommodations, including College Board and ACT accommodation requests, and participates as a key member of a student support team that meets weekly. In a division of just under 550 students, the Learning Specialist typically has a caseload of about 35-50 students. About You Successful candidates for this position will: - Have a track record of helping students develop learning skills that allow them to succeed in a challenging academic program.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of cognition, learning, and intervention approaches.
- Have experience with a wide range of pedagogies, strategies, and systems that can help upper school students succeed.
- Be collaborative in nature, seeking ways to partner with teachers, families, and others to support student learning
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a positive and proactive communication style
- Support classroom teachers in differentiating instruction
- Have the expertise and experience to develop and implement occasional workshops related to academic support that can help other teachers grow
Qualifications The ideal candidate will hold an advanced degree in Special Education or a similar relevant field.
