William Penn Charter School, a co-ed, pre-K-12 independent Quaker day school, seeks a full-time Lower School Librarian to begin in the 2021-22 academic year. Applicants must possess a Master’s in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program. Candidates must also have at least three years of lower school library experience. The Librarian will teach information literacy skills and promote a lifelong love of reading in grades PreK-5. Additionally, they will partner with Lower School faculty to promote school library use, research and reading within the Penn Charter community. The librarian works collaboratively with other members of the library department. The successful candidate will also embrace student-centered pedagogy, model curiosity and a desire for professional growth, and exhibit a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues. Additionally, they will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion both in their teaching practice and in building relationships. The ability to guide teachers in differentiating instruction and working closely and compassionately with families is central to this role.The librarian works collaboratively with other members of the library department to create a library that is the intellectual hearth of the lower school. Familiarity with the principles and practices of Quakerism and Quaker education and Responsive Classroom is highly desirable. Responsibilities of the Librarian include:
