AIM Academy is excited to post the opening of a Middle & Upper School Design Thinking and Innovative Specialist teaching position.
AIM’s Upper & Middle Schools are innovative and collaborative environments where teachers have smaller than usual caseloads so they can focus on the individual needs of students. Teaching faculty in the Middle & Upper School enjoy a good deal of autonomy in the material they teach as well as very well-developed support structures to employ key research based practices for students with language-based learning differences.
AIM’s Engineering and Robotics team consists of three faculty members who focus on engineering, design, problem solving and robotics in a project based curriculum 1st grade through 12th. This position will be focused on Middle and Upper School students. This position will largely focus on Engineering and Robotics and the production of student based, hands-on projects, that will teach basic design and engineering principles.
This candidate must be flexible and willing to adapt plans to fit the needs of bright students who learn differently.
Experience with a laser cutter, 3D printers, lathe, and computers that have OnShape, Inventor, CorelDraw, Fusion 360, TinkerCAD, Cura, Legos, Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
Knowledge of competitive robotic programs: such as FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition.
Understanding of coding (preferably an ability to teach coding) as well as an understanding/ interest in emerging education around artificial intelligence.
Experience creating and implementing strategies for Engineering/STEAM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula for Middle and Upper School students.
Work in partnership with teachers and staff, collaborating with technology, engagement, lesson ideas, use of technology, STEAM, and online tools.
Design and deliver student-centered, project and problem-based learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
Willingness and/or experience in partnerships and community engagement.
Ability/commitment to plan and host large scale robotics/engineering events
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Design or Education
PA or Private Academic Certification
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
Experience working with middle and high school students
Ability to positively and productively relate to adolescents and teens
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Adaptive learner and self-starter
Strong technology skills
Fundamental use and comfort with Makerspace equipment
Collaborative and open to feedback from a strong instructional support team
