Nestled within the heart of Center City Philadelphia, Friends Select School is eager to hire a first grade educator who is passionate about using the City and its wealth of resources to enhance the learning of their students. We are looking for a new colleague who is a strong collaborator with a growth mindset who can join us in our continual refinement of the art of teaching and partner with us to further enact our mission as a Quaker school.
The ideal candidate for this position has
a graduate degree in education or a related field
3-5 years of teaching experience at the first-grade level (or an approximate grade)
strong pedagogical skills
experience teaching Units of Study in Reading and Writing Workshop from Teachers College, as well as Wilson Fundations
excellent verbal and written communication skills
experience collaborating with colleagues to develop an integrated social studies curriculum
experience teaching Everyday Math or a similar curriculum
a commitment to social justice and anti-racist education
The responsibilities of a lower school lead teacher include
teaching reading, writing, math, and social studies
supporting and facilitating students' social-emotional development
utilizing the city to enhance student learning
collaborating with both grade-level colleagues and the rest of the lower school faculty
communicating with parents including, but not limited to, two progress reports and two parent conferences
meeting after school as needed for faculty meetings, curriculum development, and committee work, approximately 2 times per week
attending various school events
carrying out various duties such as supervising lunch, recess, and dismissal
