Summary:

This position (year-round) is designed to help advance Shipley's goal of becoming a secondary school leader in data science. This is a new position which will be critical to the creation of an integrated process to improve the School's operations (e.g., Development, Enrollment, Marketing, and Academic Program) using predictive analytics. This process is an iterative cycle which includes posing questions, gathering information, analyzing data to make informed decisions, presenting and explaining findings, and making adjustments in operations strategies and tactics to address those findings. The Coordinator reports to the Assistant Head of School for Community Engagement and works closely with a team of data professionals, including the Coordinator of Educational Research.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with colleagues on strategies for using evidence to inform decision making to provide a world class customer experience over the customer lifecycle (prospective customer through alumni).
• Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) data coding and analysis, web scraping, survey data collection, conducting pilot interviews and exit polls, and reviewing relevant research.
• Support others in the School (Development, Enrollment/Admissions, Marketing, Director of Educational Research), to increase efficiency and drive revenue using predictive analytics.
  • Provide statistical, informational and administrative support to the various departments at the School using existing databases, reports, or other data.
  • Identify information needs and collect, analyze, interpret, and share data/information/evidence related directly to School operations (including Development, Enrollment, Marketing, Academic Program).
  • Conduct research and produce reports in support of development, enrollment, and marketing.
  • Serve as an internal consultant to various departments in the School.
• Project management: maintain a project board of ongoing data-related projects; serve as both lead and support managing projects (depending on the project).
• Support a culture and processes built around the possibilities of evidence-informed decision making.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Sample Projects

• Use predictive analytics for financial decisions or enrollment decisions.
• Work with Alumni Relations and Development to develop additional tools to identify and target prospective donors.
• Research and help deploy AI informed tools to enhance community engagement (e.g., track parent/guardian engagement at events).

Qualifications (Required Skills):

• Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience and interest in education or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Demonstrated experience in all phases of managing data science projects including: problem definition, solution formulation, model building, productionizing, and delivering measurable impact.
• Technical
  • Familiarity with data analysis and statistical tools (e.g. Python, R, SAS, Matlab or SPSS).
  • Knowledge and experience in at least three of the following areas: machine learning, data mining, user modeling, information retrieval (interrogation of log files and very large databases), economic modeling, econometrics, game theory, statistics, research methods, data analysis, e-metrics/measurement.
• Communication
  • Ability to communicate technical information to broad a range of community members.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Exceptional organizational skills; ability to conduct multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative research design, instrument design, implementation, and analysis.
  • Experience writing survey research questionnaires a plus.
• Flexible and independent thinking, self-organizing, and the ability to self-motivate.
