St. Peter’s School is an independent, coeducational, non-sectarian Preschool through Eighth Grade school, educating approximately 180 students in the center of Philadelphia for over 185 years. We are seeking an engaging full-time Humanities teacher (Grades 5 and 6) who has experience planning and implementing an integrated English and Social Studies curriculum, is committed to academic excellence and teaching with diversity and inclusion in mind, and who understands the social and emotional growth and development of young children for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively as a team with the upper school (Grades 5-8) faculty to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom.
The Humanities teacher (Grades 5 and 6) promotes critical thinking, responsible scholarship, and creative expression within an imaginative thematic curriculum. In a seminar setting with extended periods each week, we model a learning environment framed on the values of inquiry, mutual respect, and cooperative support. The program emphasizes the content and skills necessary for students to find intellectual success through a practice in reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and listening. Research skills are developed and each unit dives deeply into primary source documentation, creative and non-fiction writing.
